The 2002 Amancio is sourced from a single 37-acre Tempranillo vineyard. It received malolactic fermentation in new French oak followed by the “200% new oak” treatment (popularized by Dominique Laurent in Burgundy) over a 24 month period. Opaque purple-colored, with lots of toast (but not an excessive amount) in the nose as well as spice box, blueberry, and blackberry, the wine offers good flavors in its medium to full-bodied personality. Forward and internationally styled, it could use a bit more depth and concentration but it is nevertheless a fine effort from a difficult vintage.
