Viña Ardanza Reserva wordt gemaakt door Bodegas La Rioja Alta en uitsluitend in goede jaren op de markt gebracht. De jaren 2002, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2013 en 2014 werden gepasseerd. 36 maanden gerijpt op Amerikaans eiken. Viña Ardanza Reserva is een heerlijke, complexe rode wijn met aroma's van rijp zwart fruit, kruiden, truffels en eikenhout. Bovendien heeft deze top Rioja mooie, ronde tannines en een lange, intense afdronk.
Goede combinatie met wild, rood vlees, gevogelte en harde kazen. Heerlijk op dronk, maar kan zich tenminste tot 2032 nog verder ontwikkelen. De optimale serveertemperatuur voor Viña Ardanza Reserva is 17°C.

The 2016 Viña Ardanza Reserva was produced with 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha that matured in used American oak barrels for three years, where it was hand-racked from barrel to barrel six times in the case of Tempranillo and five times for the Garnacha, as it had a slightly shorter élevage of 30 months. Against all odds, I found the 2016 to be fresher than the 2015 and less developed, despite the fact that winemaker Julio Sáenz told me he considers it a warmer year. But I have found many wines I like in 2016, and the wine feels very clean and quite harmonious, younger and less developed, with more primary notes and a velvety mouthfeel. The wine was bottled in June 2020.
The people from La Rioja Alta are looking for older vineyards in the Rioja Alta zone, mostly around Elvillar, in principle for the sister project Torre de Oña. As they think they have done all the technical improvements possible, they believe the improvement has to come from the vineyards, so they are experimenting in that direction. In those vineyards, there is more white interplanted with the red. And they are also experimenting with white wine... As for what's currently released, I loved the 2010 Gran Reserva 890, a wine that to me epitomizes their style of reds with a long aging in barrel and in bottle. I found the wines from 2015 to be very tannic, a little rough even; they are very confident about the vintage, which they consider one of the best together with 2001, but the wines might need more time.
